Can a man and a woman be best friends without somebody catching feelings?

Travis Barber and Sade Styles are best friends of the opposite sex. Despite what everyone thinks, they are not getting busy...yet.

Co-owners of a popular barbershop/salon in named CoEd, Travis and Sade spend the bulk of their days together. But when Sade’s apartment lease runs out and Travis offers her the spare bedroom of his newly built house, will they end up sharing more than just the utilities?

This witty, fast-paced romance seeks to answer the question: can a man and a woman be best friends without crossing that fine line into the land of lovers. Best case scenario, nothing happens. Worst case scenario, they get to know each other a little too well and end up hating each other!

Are Travis and Sade making the best move for their friendship?

GUEST POST: Inspiration for Fiction – How the Real World Shapes the Fake
I was chatting with a colleague about novels and how the real world shapes the fake world which tends to suck us in and entertain us. You know…the world of fiction, adventure, and even romance. We talked about how The Harry Potter Series was a mirroring of the boarding school caste system; how The Hobbit novels were reflections of the Industrial Revolution; how Frankenstein is a warning about the possible perils of scientific discovery. All those great works of fiction were actually inspired by something in the real world! Our discussion made me think about my own stories. As much as I say they are divinely inspired, and they are, my novels are also inspired by my environment, by what’s going on around me. My experiences eventually live on through the novels I stay up to the wee hours of the night writing. That’s not to say that I’m like The Best Man’s Harper Stewart, who basically told his life story and just changed some names and events around…eventually getting his behind whipped because of it. But I must admit that my world does shape my fiction writing.
I was asked what inspired me to write my latest novel, COED. I had to admit that the novel was inspired by how my wife and I met and were initially just friends. I believe we spoke on the phone daily. We joked around. Even went out to eat. But I can honestly say that in the beginning, neither of us wanted more than just a cool person to hang out with. But, oh boy! One day, she started looking like more than just a friend to me. I started looking like more than just a friend to her as well. And well…we’ve been married for almost 17 years now. But it all started as just a friendship. So, I wrote a novel that asked the question: can a man and a woman be just best friends without somebody catching feelings? While writing the novel, I asked folks their opinion on the matter. Surprisingly, a lot of people think that you can have a best friend of the opposite sex, spend loads of time together and things go no further than friendship. For me, I wasn’t so lucky. Or then again, I might just be one of the luckiest men on earth.
So what do you think. Can a man and a woman be just best friends without at least one of them wanting more than mere friendship?
