BLURB:

Alone and betrayed, American professor, Bonny Bryant longs for a haven of peace. She accepts a position at a small Christian college in Fort William, Scotland, craving escape from her painful past. The passionate love which develops when she meets fellow professor and sheep farmer, Kieran MacDonell, is something she never anticipated.

Kieran harbors a deep anger toward God in the face of his own devastating grief. When Bonny’s former fiancĂ© reenters her life, Kieran’s loneliness draws him to a former student.

How will Bonny decide between her rivals? Can they set aside the past to make way for a future, or will it drive them apart?

Land of My Dreams, Christian Romance Novel, spans the distance between New Mexico’s high desert mountains and the misty Scottish Highlands with a timeless story of overwhelming grief, undying love, and compelling faith.

Excerpt:

“Come see this.” Kieran and Bonny stood atop Grant Tower at Urquhart Castle, overlooking Loch Ness. For her, it was a place of poignant memories. He pointed to a rainbow arching from one side of the loch to the other as she moved into the crook of his arm. “Now, down there.”

She stood on tiptoe and looked to where he pointed, at the base of the tower.

“Step onto that ledge and I’ll steady you.”

The warmth of his hands around her waist contrasted with the chill wind. She shivered and leaned close enough to hear the stubble on his chin scratching against her raincoat. “The rainbow enters the water at the foot of the tower. Another fifty feet, and it would form a complete circle. Amazing.”

His arms tightened around her. “No more so than the woman in my arms.”

She kept silent. Did he feel it? What could be more romantic than a rainbow all their own?

“No one else sees it.”

His warm breath tickled her ear, and she leaned against him, wrapped in a sense of wonder and delight. No one even wrote things this perfect. “Just we two.”
W
Kieran bent over her, his lips touching hers, tentative and searching. She leaned into his arms, her heart leaping in her chest as she allowed her lips to reveal her readiness to move forward. The scent of him was becoming so familiar. The taste of him was even sweeter.

Q & A with Norma Gail

What books/authors have influenced your writing?
The authors and books, which have most influenced my writing, are Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, Charlotte BrontĂ«’s Jane Eyre, and anything by Michael Phillips’ and Liz Curtis Higgs. I like writers who give their characters real depth and scope and have a strong faith element to their stories. I enjoy seeing unlikely situations lead to love and love that lasts through trials and struggle.

Tell us something you hate doing. Why?
I hate pitching a story to editors and publishers. I would be so much happier if they would just read it and love it. I don’t like having to “sell” it. I can take criticism and rejection, but I dislike proving to someone that my book is worth their time and effort. It makes me feel insecure.

When you are in writer mode, music or no music? If music, do you have a playlist?
I don’t always listen to music when I am writing, unless I need to set the mood for some major event that was already connected to the song in some way. I do have playlists for everything I write. I immerse myself in it. For Land of My Dreams, I listened to Celtic music for years, bagpipes, violin, fiddle, flute, hymns. The words to the lyrics often influence the direction of the story or evoke memories that enable me to enter into the story and write with emotion.

Who was your favorite hero/heroine?
My all-time favorite hero and heroine are probably Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler. They are so real and flawed, successful in all the things that don’t really matter and total failures in the things that turn out to matter the most.

Have you ever had one character you wanted to go one way with but after the book was done the character was totally different?
The character of Deirdre in Land of My Dreams, began as a very minor character. She started out pretty creepy, but she changed and became more normal. She will have a major role in the sequel where she ends up creepy but different from what I or my readers expected. She had a mind of her own and she takes the story on a path that never leads where I thought it was going.

  11. I can so empathise with Norma's dislike of having to 'sell' an idea. I regularly have to do this at work and while I don't mind talking in public or making presentations, you do feel vulnerable.

    1. I agree, Kate! It makes me feel vulnerable and like I'm begging. I do know it's probably a good experience for me, though. I have to believe in my own book!
