Debbie Dickerson's New Release
Music & Lyrics Series #2
Soul-O

The highly anticipated conclusion to Chasing Lyrics…

How do you turn Dylan, a sweet and innocent woman into your worst nightmare? You hurt her best friend Tanner, the man she plans on spending the rest of her life with.
Dylan’s pain and frustration of not being able to emotionally reach Tanner, fuels her consuming thirst for revenge. The thoughts of Jennifer Temple violating Tanner, unable to erase the images from her memory, Dylan knows that life as she once knew it is gone forever. Revenge replaces her thoughts of writing songs, marrying her life-long best friend, heck it replaces every thought in her mind. Jennifer Temple will pay for what she’s done.
Determined to leave Dylan out of his path of self-destruction, Tanner struggles with being unable to cope with what happened to him and the feeling that Dylan deserves more than what he can offer her now. Knowing that the authorities and public will never believe Jennifer violated Tanner, he and Chip take matters into their own hands and create a plan that will ruin Jennifer Temple’s career, which is all she has in her pathetic life.
When Tanner discovers Dylan’s plan to settle the score in his honor, he realizes what this has actually done to her. Is his love for her greater than his own self-loathing? Will their love and friendship be able to persevere through the nightmare Jennifer put them in? Will the music they’ve made together for all these years, once again bring them together?

Q & A with Debbie Dickerson about Soul-O!

Tell us about Soul-O.

Soul-O is the conclusion to Chasing Lyrics. This book is a deeper, darker, more of an emotional read than my other books. Tanner and Dylan have many ups and downs, which will take the reader on an emotional ride. All emotions will be touched...happy, sad, angry, and giddy! Soul-O leaves no questions unanswered!

What initially inspired you to write Soul-O

Being the conclusion to Chasing Lyrics, Soul-O was set out to be an emotional ride. As I was writing, the characters inspired me to go deeper & darker.

Tell us little about the characters Soul-O.

Tanner Staff is the leading male. We really get to know what he’s made of in Soul-O as he deals with life after what Jennifer Temple did to him. (Don’t want to spoil anything). His kindness and love for Lyrics is beautiful and real, and also allows his vulnerable side to show. The fact that he can sing and play guitar doesn’t hurt either!

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

Writing while tears streamed down my face! I’m not a crier but this book brought out emotions in me that I wasn’t expecting.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

I loved writing the songs. It’s always been a dream of mine and now it’s a reality! Now, I’m on the hunt to find the right voice for each one!

What are your future project(s)?

Currently writing a standalone Women’s Fiction that is going to be amazing! I am so incredibly excited to once again step out of my comfort zone and jump into a new genre.

Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers about this book/series?

I hope you love reading these as much (or close to) as I loved writing them!

Now an exciting excerpt from Soul-O!

The realization that this is going to be a hell of a lot harder than I anticipated hits me like a Mack truck. No matter what either of us has gone through in the past, being around each other made it instantly better. This is different though. This isn’t some petty heartbreak. This is something neither of us is remotely prepared for. The moment he saw me standing in the doorway of his hotel room in Australia, his expression was obvious and clearly he was not happy about me being there. It’s only been a couple of days since this happened, but the feeling of wanting to help him and being pushed away is driving me insane. For the first time, I feel uncomfortable with Tanner.

As we pull into the parking lot of the apartment, I ask, “Are you staying at my place or yours?”

With a wobbly head and slurred speech, he looks at me with sad, once-full-of-life amber eyes and says, “Don’t care.” I help him out of his ridiculously high truck and without saying more than needed, wrap my arm around his waist as he slumps over me and we walk to the door. I open the door and somehow manage not to drop him on the way in. Making our way toward the bedroom, Tanner mumbles, “I love this place. My best friend lives here.” I don’t know whether to laugh or cry from his comment. I just say, “Let’s get you to bed.”

Author Bio:

I am a total goofball that truly enjoys life! My writing definitely reflects who I am...blunt, filter-less, family oriented, funny, and sexy as all get up! (The last one may be self-proclaimed)?

I grew up in The San Fernando Valley, California, yes I am a "Valley Girl." 12 years ago we packed up and moved to Texas and absolutely loved it there! My suspicions of being a small town girl stuck in a city body were confirmed! Recently, we wanted to try our hand at the cold, so we relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado. So far, it's been beautiful and not too cold yet. Sure do miss Texas though.

I've been married for twenty years and thus far we've managed to not kill each other. We have two amazing, funny, and completely sarcastic teen boys! (Neither will even peek inside my books, the cover is their limit)!

I am always working on my next novel, sometimes physically and sometimes mentally...but the wheels are always spinning! Writing has always been a passion of mine and I enjoy every moment of it, yes, even the frustrating times are still worth it!

I love engaging with my readers so please feel free to contact me with any questions or positive comments you may have!

Thank you so much for being part of my journey, I can't wait to see where it takes me next!

  2. Not really for me to that extent, but hearing stories about people in real life I can see that happening.

  4. Well, I won't say I was hungry for revenge exactly, but when i heard one particular person we knew was attacked by a flesh-eating virus, we didn't cry over it.

  5. Yeah, I've wanted revenge before, but pain fades with time and I don't feel that way anymore.

  6. Yes, someone made fun of my brother once. He has Parkinson's Disease. I was so mad that I wanted revenge at the time.

  7. Yes, absolutely; I can think of a couple instances. The #1 person that comes to mind, though, is me.
