by Michelle Montebello

Belle Hamilton is a romantic at heart. She's engaged to the love of her life and dreams of marriage, children and a happily ever after. Belle’s world is close to perfect until one afternoon she makes a decision she can't take back.

In the blink of an eye, Belle’s life spirals out of control. She loses everything that is dear to her and is forced to flee to the other side of the world where she meets Andrea, a local bartender in Rome, and develops an unexpected connection with him.

Can they break through the complications of past hurts and a long-distance relationship to make it work, or will one terrifying night in Paris end it before it had a chance to begin?

Interwoven is the first book in the Belle Hamilton series; a story about fate and how it can balance delicately upon the decisions we make.

Racked with guilt over what happened to her, he could not stay away. Hoping sleeping beauty could hear him and know that he was near.

EXCERPT:

He jumped the cabin steps in one leap, wrenching open the door. “We’re taking on water. Life jacket on, now!” Ronan pulled on his own, not waiting to see if she followed directions.

“What was that?” Adrianne cried, her knuckles white on the steering wheel.

Ronan shook his head, snapping the clasps before he turned to her. He shot a look over his shoulder. The smaller craft struggled in the waves, closing the distance. His fingers moved deftly down the black plastic clips, snapping them across her chest. “We hit something. We’re going down. I don’t know how deep it is, but we can’t stay here.” He scanned their surroundings. They were about thirty yards from land.

Adrianne clung to the backpack like it was a buoy. Tears glistened in her eyes. “Ok.”

Ronan framed her face with his hands. “I need you to do exactly as I say, ok?”

She nodded. She still wouldn’t let go of that damn backpack.

He pulled her behind him. The boat listed, the horrible sound of torn metal groaned below them. “We’re going to jump. Swim for the shore with everything you got.”

“I—I can’t,” she stammered.

Ronan glanced over his shoulder. The boat was close, its lone occupant fighting against the wind. Once they were in the water, the carcass of the Fiona would block them, but not for long. He smiled sheepishly at Adrianne. “Sorry about this.”

She looked up sharply. “What?”

He picked her up and unceremoniously tossed her overboard.

Excerpt:

“Excuse me,” said a female voice. Nick’s head swiveled. He’d been so focused on the boy in the bed, he hadn’t realized someone else was there. A gorgeous woman, with dark honey hair, sky-blue eyes, and a sweet smile. Dressed in light blue scrubs, she approached him from the corner of the room, holding things. Nick blinked. She was beautiful... but a beautiful blonde. Couldn’t be a Harrison, then. Who was she?

“Sorry, but I have to ask you to use these before you get closer to him.” She held a white surgical mask in one hand and a bottle of antiseptic hand sanitizer in the other. She offered another smile as she opened the plastic bottle cap.

Something pinged deep in his chest as he looked at her. What the... it was like the air around him went wavy, even crackled with something like electricity. Finally, he blinked and cleared his throat. “Um, sure. Whatever you say.”

“Well, you travelled today, right?” she said. “So many germs in air travel...”

“Right. Of course. Sure.” He took the mask from her, and when their fingers brushed, he felt a jolt shoot up his arm. He almost shivered from it. Get a grip, dude. “I showered when I got to the hotel, though. Hope that helps?” He looked into her eyes.

“It does. But still.” She met his gaze and a light blush colored her cheeks. Maybe he hadn’t been the only one who’d felt that jolt. He couldn’t stop staring at her. What the hell was that about?

“This is Amanda,” Lisette said, jarring him from his momentary daze. “She’s one of Myles’s private nurses. She’s amazing.” Lisette dropped her voice to a stage whisper. “She’s also his favorite on the whole team, but don’t tell anyone.”

Amanda smiled at the compliment, winked down at Myles, then squirted some gel into Nick’s open palm. He rubbed his hands together, making sure to cover all his skin, but his eyes were glued to Amanda. He’d dated many women. He’d seen tons of gorgeous women... but never had one given him such a deep, visceral smack of an instant reaction.

He didn’t believe in love at first sight. But a... click, some kind of recognition, at first sight? Yeah, maybe. Nick felt something, he couldn’t deny it. It was bizarre...

Then he almost grunted at himself out loud. This whole situation was messing with his head. He was losing his damn mind. He had to pull himself together.

“I’m Nick Martell,” he said to her, finding his voice just before he pulled on the mask. “Pleasure to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too, Mr. Martell.” Amanda’s voice revealed a bit of an accent. Purest Noo Yawk. He loved it.

“Please, call me Nick.”

“Well, Nick, everyone’s been anxious to meet you since they got the news,” she said. “It’s amazing that you’re a match, and that you were found. What a gift...” She reached up to adjust the mask over his nose and chin. Their eyes met again, and his heart gave a little kick in his chest.

Excerpt:

They’d met at Hunters Hill High School when they were sixteen. He’d asked for her help with his English and History assignments, subjects that he wasn’t terribly natural at, and she’d agreed.

After study each afternoon, he would walk her to the local milk bar for a strawberry ice cream cone. They would sit in the park by the water, licking their ice creams and talking for hours. It was during those lovely picturesque afternoons lying on the soft grass, beneath the trees that a delightful appreciation for each other’s company had ensued.

Belle wasn’t like the other girls in Ben’s class. She wasn’t loud or a show-off. She was shy, sweet and quietly curious. She was creative, loved books and was a whizz with a spoon in home economics.

He was handsome and spoke with an intensity and passion that had secured him a spot as captain of the school debate team. He was smart in science and mathematics, cleverly conversational, and popular with the girls. A beautiful young relationship had blossomed, for opposites surely did attract.

They’d graduated from Hunters Hill High School together at eighteen. He’d gravitated immediately toward a Bachelor of Law at university. Belle hadn’t felt the same pull, inclined more so towards a job in the food industry. Her father had balked, of course. After many arguments, ones in which she never did seem to get her point across, she’d reluctantly agreed to study a Bachelor of Communications in Journalism. She hadn’t been thrilled with the idea of going to university. It wasn’t at all what she wanted to do but it temporarily appeased her father and that made everyone’s life a little easier.

Ben’s career after university had taken off; exploded, more like it. He was ambitious, focused and brilliant in the courtroom. He regarded his career with the same kind of intensity and passion that Belle had come to love him for. He balanced her; completed her.

One night when they were twenty-six, Ben proposed. It was over dinner on a Wednesday evening at Tetsuya’s on Kent Street. He’d just been offered a position with the prestigious law firm, Richardson & Fields, as a junior criminal barrister. They took only one new recruit a year. It was a culmination of hard work and dedication that had finally paid off. He’d landed his dream job.

Ben had been animated that night, a number of scotches already under his belt. His happiness had been infectious, she remembered, as they’d laughed and celebrated his success. He’d gotten down on one knee and produced a small box: robin egg blue. Unmistakably Tiffany’s.

When he’d opened it, Belle’s breath had caught in her throat. A stunning engagement ring twinkled up at her, a thousand white diamonds, it seemed, set in an elegant round cut and sitting upon a diamond-encrusted platinum band. It was worth more than her car and tiny flat above Darling Street put together, she was sure.

Belle had shivered when he’d placed the ring on her finger and she’d whispered yes before he’d even asked the question. She wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol, the proposal or the dizzying thrill of being in love, but she’d had a feeling that night at Tetsuya’s that, like all good fairy tales, theirs was destined for a happily ever after.
