Rose Raber, an Amish widow, discovered a long-time secret that her parents had kept for over 30 years after her mother’s death in a little box her mother told her about before her death. When Rose opens that box her life takes a spiral. She discovers her parents were not her birth parents in a letter from her birth mother, but her birth mother ask her not to look for her. As she struggles with the truth with her faith another unexpected surprise comes into her life Amish widower Matthias Wagler. With the help from Matthias, can Rose come to accept the truth and finally have peace and happiness after her tragic year of losing both and a husband, or will the secret come out and destroy her happiness along with her birth mother’s and upset Matthias chance on his new life he has started.
A Mother’s Love was such a joy to read it had me giggling, especially when it came to Rose’s 5 year old daughter Gracie, she was a ray of sunshine in every ones life, and I shed a few tears. Charlotte Hubbard made feel the conflict Rose was going through about the truth she found out especially when an unexpected coincidence arises that brings Rose and her birth mother together especially after Gracie overheard a conversation between Rose and Matthias. I could feel Anne’s anguish about giving up Rose to Rose’s parents and never seeing her again, and when the do reunite she can’t let the truth out without her husband and mother-in-law discovering the truth. I wanted to go through the book and strangle Ann’s husband Saul’s neck and shake some sense into him and tell him I thought his faith taught him not to be judgemental and to forgive, to me he was a hypocrite, but with the words of a babe his whole attitude changes. In the end Saul redeemed himself to me. I enjoyed how Matthias never gave up on Rose he was determined to keep Rose & Gracie in his life, he did wonder if he would be a good dad to another man’s child, but all that went to the wind with Gracie’s love. I loved all the characters in A Mother’s Love but my favorite was Rose’s daughter Gracie, she was a spunky, curious little thing and sometimes you never knew what she was going to say, just like any typical 5 year old.
If you love to read a clean Amish romance I recommend you pick up a copy of A Mother’s Love you will fall in love with Gracie just like I did!
