Of course, this spurs me into the diet-fitness-revenge-plan of the century, which leads me to the gym and a scorching hot personal trainer. I even manage to make some cool new friends, including a millionaire if you can believe it. Things are looking up! Naturally, that’s the moment my ex decides he wants me back, the personal trainer asks me out, and my millionaire male buddy decides to throw his hat in the ring. But that’s not enough drama. No, not for me. Because I’ve also lost my job and decided to start my own business. Just call me Ms. Drama.

Warning: Bad language, bumpy roads, and embarrassing moments ahead. But there’s also more than a bit of romance and even, if we’re lucky, love. Fingers crossed.

Everly Rawlins is amazed when her boyfriend breaks up with her because she diets too much - not because she is fat but because of her dieting. She resolves to find a diet and stick to it. Along with that, she plan to become fit All this will as a form of revenge. She finds herself at a gym with a yummy personal trainer and makes friends with an incredible array of individuals, including one millionaire. Things are looking up when her boyfriend wants her back, Mr. Yummy asks her out and her millionaire friend shows signs of wanting more than friendship. How much drama a can one woman take? Apparently a lot, because she loses her job and decides to open her own business.

I enjoyed Fat Girl Begone. D.E. Haggerty pens the story with just the right amount of humor and sarcasm. Each chapter starts out with a positive thought (sort of). Her response to exercising and dieting is exactly what many of us have experienced. As her life begins to spiral in a different direction, she finds she has her best friend, Blaze, and her new group of friends to help her and cheer her. With laughter and lots of snark, we will hop on with Everly as her life goes from the mundane to exciting fulfillment. Everly discovers that having the right person next to you is better than anything else. I found this book to be inspiring in many ways, particularly the notes at the end of the book. Starting a new exercise program is never easy but taking some advice from Everly can help. Being overweight is also not always in our control, something D.E. Haggerty stresses in her notes at the end.

Kudos to D.E. Haggerty for penning a fun story to read that contains serious undertones and lessons for us all.

Scene set-up: Nolan is not happy about being interviewed by radio shock jock, Marty Quick, and there’s a good reason why….

Marty finishes up with his Stanley Cup questions, and goes straight to the place that had me dreading this interview in the first place.

“Let’s get to the good stuff, Solvenson,” he begins, grinning over at me like a perv. “Word on the street is you’re quite the ladies’ man.”

Looking down at the tiny table that separates me from the host in what has taken on the feel of a far too enclosed space, I run my hand through my dark hair. “I don’t know about that,” I reply. “Rumors are usually just that—rumors.”

He’s unconvinced, I can tell, but too bad. This is a question I plan to evade like my reputation depends on it. And it may. After I fucked things up with Lainey back in April, I was so distraught that I sought out solace in the form of a slew of strippers.

And I don’t mean I found comfort in being with a new one night after night.

Er, though I may have done some of that too.

“Aw, come on,” Marty continues in his patented taunting tone. “All of Canada—no, wait, all of North America wants an answer.” Shit, this show does have a far reach. “Is it true you banged ten strippers in one night?”

I laugh nervously. “No, no, that’s not true at all.”

It was actually nine and occurred over the course of two days, but who’s counting?

Not me. And not anyone else if I have anything to say about it. Besides, the only thing that matters is I’m not technically lying.

See, that’s my shtick in life—being clever, outwitting everyone. I’m a wise old sage at the age of twenty-six. My teammates call me things like “sensei” and “Yoda.” And, hey, I’m cool with that. Why wouldn’t I be? It works out great for me.

That’s why if I stick to the gray areas now with Marty, I can successfully evade giving him a straight answer for the next ten minutes, the time left in the interview.

Yeah, you’re real clever all right. So clever you outwitted your own damn self with the shit you pulled with Lainey.

“You look a little uneasy there,” Shock Jock observes when he sees me frowning. “You sure there’s not even a modicum of truth to that stripper story.”

“Yep, I’m sure,” I snap.

I need to get out of here, and fast. I’m done talking about strippers. And I’m done with this shitty interview. But most of all, I’m done with staying away from Lainey. It’s time we have a talk—a real talk.

And if talking doesn’t work, I’ll do what I do best—fuck her till she agrees to start seeing me again.

“Well, thank you for the ego boost, sweetheart,” he grinned. “I’m twenty-nine.”

“Oh.” Oh God.

“And how old are you, Miss Charlotte?”

Charlotte squirmed a bit in his embrace, prompting Tig to loosen his hold on her just a bit.

“Oh, no, don’t let me go.” Charlotte’s eyes widened at her blurted confession. Tig huffed a small laugh, but pulled her closer again. “I’m thirty-five, almost thirty-six, by the way.”

“How almost?”

“Like within twelve hours almost. Tomorrow’s my birthday.”

 “Well, happy birthday, Charlotte,” Tig whispered in her ear as he dipped her low, one strong arm holding her securely behind her back, the other hand hovering above her thigh as if he wanted to grab at it.

He did not, but he did squeeze her the tiniest bit as he pulled her back to standing. Tig spun her again as the song ended, and Charlotte used her birthday wish for at least one more slow song.

The strains of Buddy Holly began playing over the sound system. Tig held Charlotte firmly but gently in his arms and she had an insane urge to pull him down to her and kiss him for all she was worth.

Charlotte flushed and cursed her lack of poker face, which made Tig smile even wider as they waltzed around the dance floor.

“Winnie the Pooh. That’s where I got my nickname. When I was little and driving my mama nuts, she enrolled me in a tumbling class because I was always climbing on shit and rolling around. One day during class, I was watching some of the older kids, and got it in my head that I could do an aerial from the top of a big balance beam.”

“An aerial? Like one of those cartwheels with no hands?” Charlotte interrupted.

“Exactly. And from the full size beam, which is four feet off the floor.”

“Oh my Lord, Tig.”

“Yeah. Of course, it wasn’t successful, and I’m lucky I didn’t break my neck. Afterwards, the coach compared me to Tigger–you know, ‘top made of rubber, bottom made of springs’–because I essentially bounced off my head and landed on my feet and was off again. The name just stuck.”

“I bet you were constantly giving your mother fits, weren’t you?”

Tig shrugged a shoulder, but his little grin told Charlotte the truth.

He cocked his head to the side and looked like he was getting ready to ask her something when the band returned to the stage and started in with another fast paced song. Tig quirked an eyebrow at Charlotte and she grinned and grasped his hand.

The two of them danced until the band finished for the night and then continued when a DJ took over, only stopping once to each down a bottle of water before beginning again. At one point, the two garnered such attention as to have a dancers’ circle form around them and a round of applause when the song finished.

And when the lights came on at the end of the evening, they stood and looked at each other, both breathing heavily and grinning.
